TLG Receives Awards at World IP Day Celebrations Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Customs held its annual Intellectual Property (IP) celebration event to mark World Intellectual Property Day on Thursday, April 26. HE Rashid Lahej Al Mansouri, Director of Abu Dhabi Customs, gave the welcome speech in which among other topics he highlighted the diligence and efficiency of Abu Dhabi Customs. Present at the commemorations were several dignitaries and private sector partners who work in IP rights protection and anti-counterfeiting.

In his key note address HE Al Mansouri reiterated the importance of World Intellectual Property Day, which reflects on the gains made by the Department in the area of IP rights, especially in the Year of Zayed. The celebrations were also a platform to discuss cooperation between government institutions and the private sector in IP rights protection and anti-counterfeiting.

World Intellectual Property Day is a day to celebrate and highlight the vital and essential role played by Abu Dhabi Customs in protecting intellectual property rights and therefore, supporting the economic growth of the Emirate. This is part of the Abu Dhabi Customs initiative towards a society free from counterfeiting and intellectual plagiarism.

The UAE joined the IPO in 1975 and has kept up with the developments in IP rights ever since. The UAE is a regional and international leader in IP rights protection and, therefore, is a conducive environment for innovation, technology, creativity and economic growth.

The authorities in the UAE work hard to combat counterfeiting by seizing and destroying all counterfeit products found within the country, as well as preventing goods outside UAE from entering. This work is conducted hand in hand with trademark owners and IP service provider firms such as The Legal Group (TLG).

HE Al Mansouri stressed the importance of exchanging information to improve cooperation, especially within the region in order to keep abreast with developments in the field of intellectual property protection.

During the event, distinguished Partners were honoured with awards in various categories related to intellectual property protection.

It is with great honour, that TLG was one of those awarded during the event. TLG was the only firm to receive two awards: one was for registering the highest number of customs recordals in 2017 and the second for their assistance in improving the competency and efficiency of IP protection officials by conducting the most comprehensive IP brand protection training.
